The original scope of this phased project included major interior and exterior renovations of this landmark, occupied, 2000-student high school. The original construction budget was $55 million and the scheduled construction completion date was March 1997. Prior to completion of the original contract, the scope was reprogrammed by the Board of Education to provide for three distinct high schools under one roof. The project was redesigned to provide for individual space requirements and building systems in compliance with the New York City Building Code. The budget was increased to $95 million following reprogramming and scope revisions. Work was completed in five phases, each of which had to be carefully scheduled and managed to coordinate with the school calendar.
